Key plants in the garden

The garden uses a limited colour palette of green, white, and burgundy to create a calming, restorative space.

Ferns are central to the design, providing form, texture, and greenery. Varieties like Polystichum tsussimense, Polystichum setiferum ‘Dahlem', and Athyrium niponicum ‘Red Beauty’ thrive in part shade, offering year-round interest. These versatile plants are perfect for containers or smaller spaces.

Other key plants include Acer palmatum 'Sango-Kaku', with lime green leaves in spring and red stems in winter, and Pittosporum tobira ‘Nanum', with glossy evergreen leaves and honey-scented white flowers. Hakonechloa macra softens container edges with its graceful bamboo-like foliage.

Aquilegia, Astrantia, and Akebia quinata add seasonal pops of colour.
